Not sure if this question will be answered before this kindle sells out, but Iā€™ve currently got a Fire HD 8 12th Gen that i got in 2022. Iā€™m considering buying this one as a ā€˜spareā€™ Kindle in case my current one ever dies. I really only use mine to read Kindle Unlimited books and donā€™t stream anything. Would i be wasting money to buy this one or do you think updates will continue for a long while?

Youā€™ll likely be able to read kindke books on this for 4-5 more years at least. 3rd party apps will likely stop working before Amazonā€™s apps stop, and most 3rd party apps from Amazons app store still work on this.

New gen was just on sale with a trade in for around $45, this is pretty decent for a new one.

Mine forced me to sign up for the kids+ as it said it was a kids model or whatever itā€™s called. I was able to cancel kids+ right away and remove the kids only profile and get it back to ā€œnormalā€.

Just an FYI if anyone else orders one.

This was disappointing. Gave this as a present and it didnā€™t charge/power up. Very disappointing. I should have checked it was not DoA when it arrived. The condition looked great. I think I have missed the return window now by a day or 2
