Harman Onyx Studio Bluetooth Speaker

Nevermind my usual snarky review or quasi-relevant bitterness. I bought one of these two months ago, and it’s the best bluetooth speaker I’ve ever heard, bar none. Un-#@&%!^&-believable bass, crisp midrange, and really bright high tones. Put it on the floor next to the home stereo and you get room-filling sound without the slightest hint that it’s not the full-size speakers. Blah blah superlative blah. Buy it.

Oh, and in case you do buy either model of the Onyx Studio speaker… it doesn’t come with a protective case, and the protruding legs are a bit awkward. It’s an annoying drawback when trying to transport/pack it for travel. After a little looking (could not find a suitable round soft case), this neoprene tote is about the right size, accommodates the Onyx’s legs, and provides moderate protection:

It won’t keep the legs from breaking if you whomp it around, but it’s decent, well-made, and fits nicely.

Don’t order this refurb from Woot. Read the past couple of threads on this speaker or you’ll end up with a broken/damaged item because of ZERO packaging materials included in the box… And don’t believe them when they say the problems with shipping have been resolved. That’s a lie.

It’s funny because I requested a replacement and was told there were no more speakers, yet here they are again. Guess what Woot? I’ve seen another refurb (a Harmony remote) on here and I decided to order from another site instead.

I bought the lower priced Onyx the last time it was on Woot. I love it. Fantastic sound, very well balanced. Much better – crisper, brighter – than the Miniboom, Boom, and Megaboom bluetooth speakers I had been considering. I had no problem with the shipment or condition of the speaker, it was like new. One of the best things I’ve ever bought on Woot.

I have heard one of these and was shocked at how amazing it sounded. I would be in if they were not refurbs

Ordered refurb unit from Woot. Charger was bad. Was told there were no more (so it’s a bit unpleasant to see this). McGyver’d a different charger. Sounds great.

real loud i can’t even turn it up to halfway without it being too loud. sounds great though. packing was fine no problems with the speaker.

Hi,

I am sorry if you had a bad experience, one that I would have gladly rectified for you had I been made aware, fortunately we have sold thousands of these speakers to an overwhelmingly positive response especially considering the quality people are getting for the price.

Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to mention how happy you were to receive the speaker in the condition it came.

I bought two of these for my adult sons for Christmas. I tested them and loved them. Both my boys are very pleased! One of them has an audio engineering/rock band background and is very impressed! So now I’m getting one for me! BTW, my first stereo in 1970 was Harmon Kardon and the core of my Big System is 1972 vintage HK Citation 11 and 12 amp/pre-amp.

Is this a version 1 or 2?

Thx for commenting here.

Can either these of the Onyx2s be used in pairs for stereo?

How does one reach YOU if there is a problem. I have encountered a similar problem in the past and found no way to contact someone for assistance

I just cannot help but wonder how Woot got their hands on so many “refurb” speaker units. With a WOoT limit of 4, I mean, how many duds did Harmon Kardon have returned and then refurbished for resale?
Just asking, OK.

Mine came broken also… So not a great Christmas…

Hi,

I will let Woot customer service know that they can give our contact info for anyone looking to replace a part or the whole item. In the past, I guess their other vendors did not want to assist in certain cases, we however are always willing to do so. I don’t want to jump the gun and post our info, at least not before I double check with them. Try contacting Woot tomorrow to see if they will provide my info.

I have this original Onyx & NO, it cannot be paired with another one for more of a stereo effect - nor can the newer versions for that matter. I certainly wish that it could be, that would really be an exceptional, awesome sound!! The sound quality of this speaker is really incredible to listen to, you will be amazed how good it sounds!

Actually, since the newer versions (other than the original Onyx Studio) have an Aux. IN jack, you could use a splitter cable from the source device (3.5mm cable) and then pair 2 of them together but you would have the same sound coming from both speakers - not a true stereo like you are looking for, plus you won't be using the Bluetooth capability of the speaker.

Can either these of the Onyx2s be used in pairs for stereo?

I did respond to one of your previos posts about my situation. You offered a replacement speaker to another customer because they also received a damaged speaker. I didn’t get a response from you, so I contacted Woot CS and asked them if I could get a replacement. They said no, only a refund after they received the speaker back.

I bought this speaker less than a month ago, so I would REALLY appreciate if you did send me a replacement. The speaker works, it’s just beat up and has tears in the cloth.

If you can make this right I’ll be happy Chubbie
