SDAT 5.1 Channel Home Theatre System

Ok, I might not like the product, but it’s pretty hard to find a listing with Poe undertones…kuddos to the writer!

Frequency response is meaningless without a tolerance (like ±3db). Sure, it may produce the lowest lows and the highest highs listed, but if they are a hundred times quieter than the midrange you won’t be able to hear them.

Hehe exactly. I have a big, heavy sub in the corner and it strains to go below 30Hz. I think it technically goes down to 23 or 28 but it’s producing so much port noise at that point that it’s useless.

It says warranty is “90 day MTX”

Wonder if that’s the same MTX that makes the car audio stuff.

Ok, I’m ignorant and I know I’m ignorant, so here is an ignorant question:

Is this set wireless, or would I have to run cords all over my living room to make it work?

I did look in the manual but it wasn’t completely clear.

Again, these are NOT xbox/ps3/bluray/dvdplayer/whatever compatable. They need pre-out signals handed off from an external decoder to achieve actual 5.1 output.

They WILL, however work with a PC though you will probably need some 1/8" stereo -> 2x RCA adapters. (your PC sound card puts out all the signals separately)

Well, crap.

Typical, you cant name a better small speaker. Just full of strange irrational, anti-bose rage.
Ha,ha…was thinking the exact same thing. I can picture him feverishly searching for something…anything, to try to maintain some type of credibility (it’s already gone, of course). Just another anti-“insert whatever”, cocktail party wannabe. lol
I wouldn’t call Bose garbage, but I would call it astonishingly overpriced.
I would like to see them compared in a double-blind. Of course, at most stores it’s hard to find Bose speakers set up in a way that lets you do that. Fortunately, a store where I live has a nicely set up listening area (with very comfy chairs!) that lets you compare almost all of the speakers they have. A friend wanted to get some Bose (because she recognized the name, I told her that I have several pairs of bose speakers that she could just HAVE and these were from back when they made stuff out of wood) and we could listen to any of the Bose they had that were in her size range (2, 301) and then some tiny Paradigms (Micro and Atoms) and it took about 15 seconds for her to focus on the Paradigms (there were other brands, too, but they started getting a little bit into the crazy price range). I thought she’d like the Atoms for their size, but ended up with new Mini Monitors. I’m jealous, but don’t tell MY Minis

Bummer, dude. I have a really big, heavy sub in the corner and it strains a bit under 15Hz. Not that I can hear 15. It crushes at 23. 18Hz at 90db and up makes my ductwork rattle like you wouldn’t believe, just the right harmonics or something.

Already mentioned, Anthony Gallo. I’d add Cambridge Soundworks, Mirage, most likely Logitech (believe it or not), and Orb. That’s just off the top of my head, I haven’t really shopped tiny speakers in a decade.

Jeez, just because some people don’t know everything doesn’t make them wrong. Bose makes the cheapest possible speakers and sells them for the highest possible price.

 the box is kind of big and kind of heavy (just compared to the thing supplied with this system). I was really after a musical sub. I’d love a real HT sub, but I live in an apartment, which is surprisingly sound-resistant but still, a 1000 watt 15" sub would rattle the place. So I set out for a fast, accurate 8"-10" piece. I knew what it could do and it does it

Thanks for backing me up

At least someone on this site knows something.

Keep trying to rationalize the absurd amount of money you spent on shoddy speakers. It’s getting humorous.

I second the “oh crap” comment. I am completely ignorant about speakers, so excuse me if this is stupid, but will I need to buy something else just to connect it to my TV (newish Sony)? If so, can someone recommend something cheap?

Velodyne makes some nice musical subs. I have a 1000W MiniVee10 that sounds tight because it isn’t ported.

??? I upgraded space when I bought a house many years back and didn’t need to worry about compromise with tiny speakers anymore.

I have clean (means normal, inaudible distortion levels) reference volume at my house, if I’m crazy enough to play at that volume, which I’m not.

Funny thing about speakers…they don’t wear out. You can keep them for decades and they still sound just as good. My favorites, big or small, in an affordable price range are from Klipsch. I have some original Heresys from 30 years ago and a newer small system for my computer. Bose is a marketing company that happens to make poor speakers.

Speakers slowly wear out over time.

Sigh…trying to convince a Bose fanboy that Bose are extremely overpriced and underperforming is like watching a dog chase it’s tail…he’ll never get it.

So someone’s challening the almighty Bose and you don’t like it, eh? I dare you to read this ACTUAL audio review of Bose:

A few highlights:

-Made of low quality, poor performance materials
-Bose speaker systems have frequency gaps…meaning you don’t hear everything because the speakers can’t even reproduce some frequencies (and I’m not talking about like, 5-10 Hz…)

Consider the following as well - Bose hasn’t introduced a new product in how long (im talking actual speaker technology…not just a new name for the same product)? Why aren’t any Bose products certified by THX? Why aren’t Bose speakers next to all of the other speakers to listen to at stores?

As for other brands, here’s a nice sample (with links!):

http://www.paradigm.com/products/paradigm/bookshelf

http://www.miragespeakers.com/na-en/products/small/

I could go on and on for hours about this, but it’s not worth it because you’re just going to continue to think what you think and nothing will change. If you want to have the same amount of performace as your Bose but save some money, I suggest you go look for someone selling speakers out of a White Van in a parking lot somewhere…

Wish I knew what kind of input it takes since as you said there is no dts decoder; will it probably be an RCA for front and rear, and a single for center?.

Edit: I suppose I can use an extra reciever I have to take in optical (from PS3) / computer audio then output that to this home theater unit (as the preamp should have analog 5.1 outputs). It seems like kind of a waste to use of a receiver (and the power consumption used) since it won’t actually be “powering” the speakers.
