Bought one of these 2 offers ago here on Woot, am on 4th unit and still not up to spec. Company was responsive at first, not so any more. Broken pieces, missing pieces, faulty electronics, etc., eventually they sent a new one and even it is not operating properly (electronics faulty). Not an awful deal at $129 if you get one that works, since it can make good coffee.

This will sell out before the end of day. Do not hesitate if you are a coffee fan. No need to comment/brag on brand quality. Quench the thirst of many or yourself by choosing the number of cups. Tickle the fancy of many a taste buds by freshly burr grinding your preferred bean and selecting the seep time. Only wish the water reservoir was removable for cleaning. Personally invested too much into k-cup and separate burr grinder to invest into this all in one unit. Both units by Breville both refurbished both still working with no glitches. Thank you woot for the Breville BCG800XL Smart Grinder! Thank you Breville for quality products!
Bought one from Wiliams Sonoma originally for the house , loved it, when it came up on woot the last time I bought one and took it to the office, and I love it. A burr grinder and will make from one cup at a time to whole carafe full.
You must keep it clean for it to work properly, if you do not like to do so then stay away from this one, but if that is not a problem then you will not be sorry you bought it.
Breville appliances are wonderful.
I’m in for one to send to my mom.
Hmm. Seems complicated. My coffee maker was just invaded by zillions of ants, to the point where even if I could get rid of them I am not sure I could ever drink from that thing again. Alas, I dug out my French press but am rusty with the manual brewing skills (currently drinking a mediocre cup that I impatiently brewed). So then this pops up, and I think hmmm. Seems complicated. kind of spendy. Am I that desperate that would spend $129 on a refub maker? Could it really make that much more delicious coffee? Is it a refurb because it was once colonized my millions of ants?
Does it qualify for square trade? (going to look that up now).
Really nice unit. I wish it was the 600 thermal version. Deal breaker: it cannot calculate the water needed. It uses all the water in the reserve and uses the corresponding amount of beans.
The thermal version lets you set the amount of water so you don’t need to fill the reserve daily. I know, you think this isn’t a big deal. But it is, it’s so tall I need to pull it out to refill it.
I bought one of these new about 3 months ago, easily the best coffee maker I’ve ever had. Fantastic coffee, and it’s nice that you can brew a single cup at a time.

I have the thermal version. Lukewarm coffee. Breville makes a good cup of coffee but there are drawbacks to using this machine. Hard to clean the grinder spout. Requires descaling even with using filtered water. Takes 10 minutes to brew an XL cup of coffee. No warmer plate. And no pause drip feature. I bought the thermal version on woot. Sad to say I was really excited to get it. Very excited to use a coffee machine with a bean grinder. Truth is my old no frills cuisinart could make a better brew in waaaaay less time. I’ve decided to let go of it because I just don’t look forward to my morning cup of joe anymore. Moral: pay for shipping and take mine for free.
I purchased a refurbished thermal unit from Woot. It was faulty, would not turn on after set up. Breville sent a brand new machine out quickly to replace it, which was much appreciated. I believe they are a quality company. This new machine works as intended. However, I’m disappointed in the coffee. It just doesn’t taste great. Drinkable, but if you know and like coffee, I can’t recommend this machine. A second consideration is that the filter basket is quite small. If you like strong, intense coffee, you can’t make more than 8 cups. It tells you that in the instructions; the filter can only hold enough grounds for 8 strong cups, and they are right.
“Not an awful deal at $129 if you get one that works”??? What is your criteria for an awful deal?
This new machine works as intended. However, I’m disappointed in the coffee. It just doesn’t taste great." LMAO!
Since I roast different varieties of green coffee beans at home, I’d be happy to get as technical as you like in describing “doesn’t taste great”. However people like you who have nothing of value to add to a discussion typically open a can of ground Folgers. Therefore, I won’t bother.
We are in our 5th month with the Thermal unit. We always use the strongest setting which only makes 7 cups max but the coffee is delish. We are coffee snobs. The little wheel thingy behind the pot must be cleaned regularly or it will glaze over and clog the grinder unit. Even with the high maintainence it is still a keeper. We just need to see how long it lasts but have our Kitchenaid coffee maker and grinder at the ready just in case it doesn’t
I don’t see that it actually boils the water like my Techni Vorm does, or as a ‘manual pour over’ would. It may be good or the masses; I like their Burr-Grinder unit. Also a ‘home roaster’…
I bought one of these last time and overall I like it since I can brew a single cup or a pot and I have some control over the strength of the coffee and of course it grinds the beans on the spot which is awesome! My complaint is that the coffee does not get as hot as my Keriug at work or my Mr Coffee that I used to use. I called Breville but they “claim” it brews it to 200 degrees and the coffee loses some temperature as it fills the pot but my temperature reading was closer to 160 degrees. I probably would have sent it back if I could but since I got it here last time I am stuck! Since I paid like $140 last time I can’t get rid of it so if I use cold creamer I have to heat the coffee in the microwave.
quite a proper response! well done…
Sold!!! If your serious, lol.
Like others here, I bought this item a few Woots ago but was the thermal version. While an impressive unit, a few things to consider:
1.) Not sure if this is the unit that has a bug in the timer; your clock will lose a few minutes each week. By the time I get through the work week, I’m about 10 minutes behind in normal time (not a big deal since I just reset the unit to the right time, takes a few seconds - just an annoyance).
2.) I did have an issue with my refurb unit - the machine stopped responding to pouring water inside. Breville sent a replacement (new) unit, very happy with their customer service. I basically paid for a refurb and got a brand new one for no additional cost (and the timer bug was fixed).
3.) The clearance for travel mugs isn’t as high as you’d think it would. Granted, I did not measure mine before I bought, but I do not consider my mug anything crazy big - I bought it from a coffee shop and fits in my car’s cup holders. So I have to use the carafe and pour in the coffee. Again, not a huge issue, but a drawback from the perceived simplicity of the unit.
All that being said - it makes great coffee, looks very impressive in the kitchen, and offers so much tweaking to find just the right cup to meet your tastes. Like others have said, if you get one that works, good for you. But in my case, I didn’t, and got a brand new one for my troubles, delivered in a matter of days.

When someone says they are on their 4th unit, and new ones at that, among a field of mostly positive reviews - I start to suspect the user is the problem and not the product.
Perhaps 3 decades in IT has left me jaded…
