Pedroncelli Mixed Red Case
AAARRRGGGHHH!!!

I made the mistake of rolling the dice (based on mixed reviews) on the recent Renwood Zin offer, and grabbed the Renwood Syrah before that. I say mistake because Woot has made me a Pedroncelli fan (especially the Zin), and I have NO room to store any more wine :frowning:

If I had known about this coming I would have passed on the Renwood. I am a rookie and would have preferred the known quality of Pedroncelli to gambling on a new label.

Live and learn!
As always when someone on here says they have “no more room”-- I say you need one of two things: more friends to help deplete your inventory or you need to drink more wine!

Problem solved. Push the button!
Actually I recall them being as low as $89…those were the days
Are we really questioning $11 or $12 for these bottles? I didn’t think so…
What do you get when it is still too young?

Again I am a rookie, so forgive me. I’ve purchased 2 of their mixed cases from here, and both times there was a bottle or 2 that was not as good as the rest. So I was wondering if youth was the issue.
The wines are tightly structured and tend to be a little higher in acid. This can make them seem “closed” and “tight”.
A little bottle age or a “venturi” device helps.

I also let the wines warm up a little if I’m drinking them young (which I always do). It helps them open up.

The wines are designed to be consumed with food. Relax and enjoy!

I have little experience with these wines, since I am trying to hold on to them for this very reason, but I would say that when released as young as some of the Pedroncelli wines were, you can sometimes get a somewhat disjointed, not fully-developed wine. I noticed that a little bit with the 2009 Merlot and a little bit less with the 2009 Mother Clone Zin. They were still good wines and drank above their price point (about $8 a bottle on that order I think), but as others have said, if you give them a little more time in the bottle to develope, integrate and mellow out a bit, the result is a wine that drinks at twice the price point you are paying for, rather than drinking just above the price point.
Dang, I should just put a “don’t drink 'til 2016” sticker on the bottle and double the price!

Any chance a woot buyer discount for some Pedroncelli wines off the website will arrive with my two cases?

Morris Fay and Block 007 Cabs are really appealing.

PS. There was a great feature in Wine Spectator a while back on the Pedroncelli operation. Great read. Thanks for trying to make great wines for a reasonable price. I like to splurge on wine occasionally but I also like a glass every night.
How is the zin in this offer different from the Mother Clone offered last time? I enjoyed the MC but after bottle 3 the “prunie” or stewed prune taste became too much for me. Also, how many cases of each were produced? Thanks
The Pedroni Zin was offered a few years ago, although I don’t recall which vintage (2006?). I enjoyed it, actually a little more refined than the Mother Clone. This is a little more finesse vs power iirc.

I’ll have to think about this one for a while…ok, I’m in!

Then you would have to find room to store 10’s of thousands of cases a wine. No need to complicate things.

Yes, I offer club pricing to Woot buyers after the fact. If you have purchased via Woot before, send me an email and I’ll be sure you are set up for online purchases. 25% off on 12 bottles or more and 50% discount on shipping.

Yes, same vineyard. We changed the nomenclature because the “Pedroni/Pedroncelli” thing was a pain to explain: Margaret Pedroncelli Pedroni (sister to Jim and John)left the ranch to their daughter Carol Pedroni Bushnell.
This ranch was originally part of Giovanni Pedroncelli’s holdings. It’s been a source to us since the 1940’s!

S/B ok for us…

Time for an answer, Woot! What’s up with NYC being off the list? I’ve scoured the blogs and there haven’t been any law changes that I can find. We’re being told it can be shipped to NY by the winemaker. We know that each individual winemaker is responsible for ensuring shipping to a particular state.

What’s going on for those of us in NY???

In my experience, some of them when consumed too young, are disjointed and astringent. Not awful, but if allowed to knit together for a few years in the bottle, you’ll be well rewarded with a much better wine. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not going to turn into a BV Georges Latour, but your $10-12 bottle will compete with a variety of well made $20 bottles, so you can see with a little patience you’ll be rewarded with a nice wine with a great QPR.

There’s been some discussion on that topic on the pub.
Cross-posted from there:
This seems to address that more explicitly. Alas.

long time listener, first time caller here! thanks for all the detailed reviews on the Pedroncelli, I was always a tech-woot person, but now with my first wine woot, I can branch out a bit. so do I really have to wait until 2016 to enjoy this???

It’s all a matter of taste. And the 2009 Zin has a few years in the bottle already. The 2010 Cab is a pup and will benefit from another year in the bottle…but I drink them young. It could be that I’m used to it, or that I just don’t have as discerning a palate as our fellow Wooters!
With six bottles, you can try one now and make a decision for yourself!

No, but I highly suggest you open one of each and if you don’t like it, let it alone for 8-12 months and try it again.

+1

NYS is listed as a state that woot will ship this offering to… yet, when I tried to order, I was told that I couldn’t ship this to NYS. Anyone know what’s up with that?

hi sorry, NY temporarily off the list. stay tuned. I’s suggest PMing Ed to see if they’ll work something out directly with you.

thanks,
