Previous wooting

That one didn’t have the option of red or white - was just red. And was $1 cheaper.

Some of these were sent last time sans the filter, but I think they made good on the deal.

I’m still waiting for DeLong’s canvases. :frowning:

They might have to make up the additional costs from last time when the filter was missing on some orders.

Also, there was previous discussion of red vs. white and what the difference is. Here’s what was found:

[QUOTE=matty1124, post:43, topic:251646]

"Through extensive testing and development, we modified Vinturi Wine Aerator’s internal design and developed a Vinturi specifically calibrated for white wine. The Vinturi White Wine Aerator draws in more air, and as a result of the increased air surfaces, the wine’s exposure to air similarly increases. White wine flourishes under this heightened level of aeration. The actual design modifications - and how they differ from the Vinturi Red Wine Aerator - are considered proprietary to Vinturi with all patents pending. "

They did. Got my missing filter pretty quick.

Good point. I think I need the white one. Because I’ve definitely had my share of whites that tasted so much better on day 2 after they’ve had some air.

And no, people, you don’t need to be 21 to order this.

Sorry if this a newb question, but are these things snake oil or do they really work? Everyone I know who has one says they do, but I wonder if it’s just because they spent the money and believe in it, so they convince themselves that it works. I’m not asking if letting a wine breathe works–I believe that it does… I’m wondering if these small aerators can accomplish the same thing. Anyone have a strong opinion about it, or if possible, hard science? Thanks!

Is there any info on where this ships from and expected delivery date in So. Cal?

Click the link above for the previous wooting. There was a significant amount of discussion about this. Short answer, yes. But still, interesting to read all the perspectives.

Anyone care to comment on this Vinturi set at Amazon. ($37.09 with free shipping and no tax for me) I wonder if the Amazon one comes with the filter screen or not? Any comment on the other accessories with the Amazon deal?

They definitely work but that doesn’t mean you should put every wine through one. I highly recommend that you taste test every wine you are considering putting through the Vinturi. I’ve ruined two glasses of wine with mine so far, i.e. the wine right out of the bottle was much better than after aeration.

It works really well for wines that are a little too young. I’ve been buying < $10 young Cabs lately, like 2006 and 2007 vintages, to test it and it usually turns them into very enjoyable table wine.

Multiples passes work even “better”. I recently put a 2008 Merlot through mine and it took three passes.

Last one shipped from Sacramento area. And I believe WD said that Gift Week iteme would arrive sometime before Christmas, but don’t remember the exact timing.

Same here. I’ve got some Savennières that usually take a day or so decanting that I’d like to give a Vinturi whirl.

Beats BB&B’s price by a long shot (even with their 20% coupon).

Ooh, that means I should open my other one before giving as a gift.

People should note that the white one does not come with a sediment filter.

Doesn’t look like it comes with the filter with that one. Just says “Comes with a no-drip stand and a travel pouch and free wine pourer and wine stopper” and says nothing about the filter.

And there’s still air in the bottle after you open it, so not sure how useful the air-tight seal would be. So kinda meh on the accessories.

I’ve done side by side, repeated tests using this on a not-too-great wine (back and forth, cleansing my palate between tastes, different order each time - really trying to be as objective as possible)and it made a HUGE difference. Much smoother.

One bottle needed to be run through it about 3 times before it was decent to drink. It was a bargain bin wine on clearance that probably hadn’t been cared for well, and this saved it. It didn’t make it a wine I would serve to guests, but it made the wine decent for a weeknight by myself.

And, I have also run a couple wines through it that I shouldn’t have. It made them very flat tasting, and was immediately obvious that those wines didn’t need it.

I love my Vinturi. Picked up the red one here last time it was offered, and it’s fun to try wine with and without aeration. It doesn’t always make the wine better, some wines taste better without. But when it does improve the wine, the difference is quite magical.

Haven’t tried multiple passes through the vinturi, will have to try that out soon.

I just found the white one on amazon for $25 [and free shipping]. Interested to see what it does to white wine!
