Toon! what the foots, man?? Does it have to be a MAP map, or can we just run with the idea of maps, giving/receiving directions, getting lost, etc? Cmon man…
Hey guys, I just made a design… but I dont really know how to do all the things that are required to get it up for woot. Would someone mind telling me what programs you use to resize, vectorise (i dont even know what that means!) ect. ?

Also, I used a public domain image, and made alterations, and I still dont know how to get it to just six colors. Surely there is a program for all this?

You’ll want to have photoshop for this.

A Close up. The jaggy broken line look is purposely, the shirt detail does no justice i did bad and got AWESOME artifactis! …

Thanks for voting!

Heh. Too esoteric, but here’s a caption “How Al Gore plans to win the 2008 election.”

LIke I said, probably not obvious enough to merit further thought. Most people will have to stare far too long to realize that FL is missing from the map.
LOL!! I just noticed that…
After the 2000 election I created a quick cartoon showing Florida in two ways … One with one Lake Okechobee (named Republican Florida), and one with 2 Lake Okechobees (named Democratic Florida (in reference to multipunched ballots and the hanging chads))

Thanks for the input … I figured having the caption ‘The World is Flat’ would be redundant??

EDIT:OK, I think I’m gonna put “Let’s get it back into tune”
Check for it over the weekend.
Thanks again wabbit…

I think the problem with the ones that got rejected so far, is that there is no maps reference.

The theme isn’t giving/receiving directions or getting lost or anything…

It’s maps… and those rejected shirts have nothing to do with the exact theme of maps.

I like “The world is flat” design much better than any of the others posted so far.

Good Stuff!

I would stay away from political designs, if you are out there to win.

Blue Star - detail

this is my best idea so far, hope you like it!

Thanks Mr.Pibb  Politics IS too touchy … don’t need to be ostracized unnecessarily.

Some kind of map, yeah.

I’m not doing the moderating, by the way. Behind every good Toon there’s a great bunch of anonymous guys. Lucky bastards.

wow, two rejected already. i see woot is gonna be all over this one.

well, let’s do some abstract thinking here. what is a map? well, yes, it’s a piece of paper with drawlings on it that tell you where things are, but what is it abstractly? it’s a way of giving/receiving directions. going along with the theme of maps comes all sorts of societal and cultural references, cliches, jokes, etc. having to do with getting lost, not being able to follow directions, etc. Why limit designs to lower level thinking when clearly “maps” can be inferred in thousands of other ways other than “a piece of paper with drawings”?

And yes, I did intentionally use the word “drawlings”.

Gimp not good enough? Maybe designing shirts is just a littler over my head… but is not worth going out and pirating photoshop just for this;; I have my two images, the little thumbnail one and the other, its just the ‘print ready’ thing that i know nothing about… and there are more than 6 colors. Surely <i>something</i> other than photoshop can reduce it to six colors?

just a quick comment on mine…if you look at the comp, you can see slight gaps between the curved and straight portions of the ‘track’ lines. because i’m leaving for Atlantic City shortly, I didn’t have time to put together a print-ready vector file, so this was done in Photoshop. I will be emailing the vector version to woot on Monday, and needless to say, such errors will not be in the print-ready file.

edit
and i might also adjust the spacing ever so slightly to allow more breathing room for “pancreas” and “small intestine”

inkscape is an excellent vector graphics open source program, has some great included tutorials as well. (it even saves as an .SVG file, which is one of the options for uploading)

Mr. triblinator, I think Gimp can convert your picture into an indexed image with 6 colors. You will probably want to tweak the colors, if Gimp doesn’t pick good ones, and I suggest selecting no dithering.

My guess is they would like to steer the designs away from “Words on a Shirt.”
